Delaware State Flags

The Delaware state flags represent one of the thirteen original colonies and the first state to ratify the Constitution. The flag proudly recognizes Delaware as the first state. The flag is set in colonial blue, with a beige-colored diamond in the center. This color combination is said to represent the colors of the uniform worn by George Washington. The diamond stands for an early nickname of Delaware. It was deemed the "Diamond State" because of its small size and great value, which is evident by its location on the Atlantic and early leadership contributions by settlers. Within the diamond are two settlers and a ship in the background. The phrase "Liberty and Independence" appears on a banner at the bottom of the diamond. Most importantly, at the bottom of the flag is the date December 7, 1787 -- the date Delaware became the first state admitted to the Union. The Delaware state flag proudly displays the importance of the first state ever admitted to the Union on December 7, 1787.
