Will Obama Have Hillary, as Sec. of State, Put the Remaining Stars on Our 57 State Flag? Did Obama say whether Alaska was the 56th or 57th state? Has Biden been talking about this every morning at Katie's Restaurant, which he says he goes to all of the time even though it's been closed for 20 years? "Stand up, Chuck" -- Joe Biden http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C2mzbuRgnI4
What is the 1 and only state that's BIG enough, WARM enough, and CENTRAL enough to get 2 hurricanes in 1 day? There is one state in the U.S. that could be affected by an Atlantic hurricane in the east from the Gulf of Mexico and a Pacific hurricane in the west from the Gulf of California in one day. It can't be Florida, since it's too far east to be affected by anything in the Pacific, and it can't be Hawaii, since it's too far west for anything in the Atlantic to reach it. So the state would have to be HUGE, but Alaska is too cold for tropical development. The only thing I can tell you to clue you in is that the Pacific one could be no stronger than maybe Cat. 1 while the Atlantic one could be as strong as a Cat. 5 and both could affect the state's capital -- especially if they merged! So what is the short, simple name of this large, proud state, with a patriotic-looking state flag, that requires its students to study both the Atlantic and Pacific hurricane tracking charts in Social Studies class? (Hint: It's hard to believe since people see blue skies and rolling hills when it's said!)
Is Hawaii really a state of the union? How do we know if Hawaii really is a state? There are several things that leave me in doubt: - They were invaded by the Japanese at one point during World War 2. - They're almost never in the country; they're usually out at sea somewhere. - Hawaii is just one of several islands. How did the rest of the islands get in? Shouldn't they be separate states? - Almost none of their street signs is in English. - It costs at least $500 to go there. Why so much? When's the last time anybody paid $500 to go to, say, New Jersey? - Hawaii supposedly became a state on August 21, 1959; but Barack Obama was born in Hawaii on August 4, 1961. That can't be right, because as we all know, Obama is Unamerican. - Alaska became a state on January 3, 1959. Isn't it a rather large coincidence for America to gain two states in the *same year?* - Hawaii's state flag has a British flag in the corner. (You may remember from your history books that the British were the very first Unamericans.) - They're just too darn dusky. These are legitimate grounds for concern. Sure, somebody in Congress could show us a piece of paper *claiming* Hawaii to be a state, but what kind of proof is that? It could be a fake. Are there any other "staters" out there who share my concerns? Note to those with irony deficiency: Yes, it's a joke. It's a bit frightening how many people are taking this seriously. Maybe that's why "birthers" are getting so much press, instead of just being ignored as the frothing loonies that they are.
What will President Palin's "Alaska First" policy be like? Will we actively speed up global warming? Will the stars on the flag be re-sized to reflect the land area of each state, so the Alaska star will be huge and Joe Biden's Delaware star will be tiny, tiny? Will huge amounts of federal money be spent to market whale blubber and caribou meat in the lower 48, in order to boost Alaska's frozen food industry? Will ten percent of all federal jobs in the country be reserved for speakers of Aleut and Eskimo?
Was There Ever A US Flag With 49 Stars? Alaska (49th state) was admitted to the Union on 1-3-59 and Hawaii (50th state) on 8-21-59. Was a new flag with 49 stars designed between the time Alasks joined the United States and Hawaii gained statehood? Or did we skip right from the flag with 48 stars to our present American flag with 50 stars?
Alaska What do you know about it? What do you think is so great about Texas? For me, I'd have to say the following: the people; sure, there are good and bad apples everywhere, but Texans from I've seen are some of the friendliest, most charitable people anywhere. Among other things: Alamo, Riverwalk, El Mercado, State Capitol, Sixth Street in Austin, Town Lake, Austin, San Antonio, Fort Worth, Stockyards, Mesquite Rodeo, AmeriQuest Field, Texas Rangers baseball, Houston Astros baseball, Galveston, The Strand, Galveston Beach, corn nuggets, Texas-sized steaks, wildflowers, diverse landscapes (hills, desert, pine woods, plains, beaches, etc.,) wide open spaces, the state seal, the state flag... If there are any other ones you want to add, please go ahead. And by the way, I'm not from Texas, I'm from Kentucky, but I'm saving up so I can get down there as fast as freakin' possible. (I'll have my Bachelor's degree in two years, then I can move down there.) Sure, I could move to California, Alaska, Michigan, Florida, Carolinas, Colorado, etc., but I like TX!
Is there proof that Sarah Palin pledges allegiance to the flag of the United States? As President, you are supposed to pledge allegiance to the flag of the UNITED STATES of America, not the flag of Alaska. Sarah Palin is an anti-American secessionist. How can we put her a VP one heart beat away from an aging President? We cannot have a VP or a potential president who was once a member of a group that wants to vote on removing itself from the United States, with some members openly taking the position that the United States is an illegal occupier? If she subscribes to the group's motto "Alaska First," what does that mean as far as domestic policy decisions that would come out of a Palin administration? Their pledge "Alaska First" contradicts does not put the United States as their "Country First"
Alaska or Hawaii? I need to please! Thanks!!? Question 1. Which State has a flag designed by a 13 year old? Question 2. Which State is a birthplace of a U.S president? Alaska or Hawaii? Sorry if its the Wrong Section!!!
A flag in a war? I bought a musette from a military surplus store and inside the bag it had a 48 star flag and, its either a japanese or chinese handkerchief. But what i want to know is what war is that flag most likley from, what war was that man in that had that flag. And if you dont know hawaii and alaska became states in 1959.
Why are there so many who fly a 50 star US flag in contradiction to 4 USC sec. 1? Firstly, I DID READ THE WHOLE THING AS SOME HAVE ASSUMED IN ERROR!! (Barry your wrong!) Secondly, Hawaii and Alaska NOT ARE STATES OF THE UNION, they are corporate States of the corporate UNITED STATES! So we are right back to the original question, unaswered. The below listed answers where given to answer my question as stated. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Why didn't you keep reading? Learn to read the WHOLE thing, and not just stop when you l feel like it. Because Sec. 2 says: Sec 2. (same) additional stars On the admission of a new State into the Union one star shall be added to the union of the flag; and such addition shall take effect on the fourth day of July then next succeeding such admission. (so Barry is right, why did you stop reading?) It might let us know you're smart enough to find out ALL the facts and look intelligent, rather than just reading enough to look stupid.
Florida and Michigan are two very important states. What is going to happen if those delegates are not seated? Do you think that we are going to bring back to the convention the old flag which had 48 stars representing 48 states prior to Alaska and Hawaii? We cannot just ignore Florida and Michigan. We need to find a solution or a re-vote. What do you suggest?
President Obama unveils the new American Flag - but where can I get mine? Here it is, she's a beauty and I want one... http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/.shared/image.html?/photos/uncategorized/2008/05/10/newlapelpin.jpg As a true PATRIOTIC AMERICAN, I always want the latest gear so I can show my love for my country and that includes the latest symbol of America..."NEW GLORY". Yes, "OLD GLORY" is just that...OLD NEWS! Now today, with the addition of SEVEN new States that have been ratified by the Obama Administration, there is available for us all to wear on our lapels... the American Flag showing ALL 57 States. YES, that includes Alaska and Hawaii. But, where can I get mine before they are all sold? @ THe T And, you accuse ME of missing the point? swooosh! my Question clearly went WAY over YOUR head!
Why are there Canadian flags flying in Vermont? I'm just wondering because I can't give my wife a decent answer. My wife is from an Asian country and can't understand why there would be a Canadian flag flying in the United States (at public places like parks, grocery stores, airports, etc.) I told her that its because Canada is just close and its just a welcoming gesture to fly a Canadian flag alongside the American flag. But then she asked if there are Russian flags flying in Alaska and I was stumped. Anyone know the EXACT reason and not just a speculative reason?
Should American Flags placed on the the grave of a World War Two soldier have 48 or 50 stars? Alaska and Hawaii were not part of the union durring WWII and the flag that the soldiers fought for/under had 48 stars. My respects to the states of Hawaii and Alaska and veterans past and living. Like I said... On the Grave, Not a casket.
how many states are there in the united states? Hi, i am a teacher. As my knowledge, the US has 50 states as well as 50 stars on its flag. But when i count the map, there are 52. Do you think the South Carolina and North Carolina are considered as 1, South Dakota and North Dakota? When i study, i know that there are 48 states in continent and 2 states off shore, Alaska and Hawaii? Am i true? Please let me know this?
Sarah Palin govern the most socialist state? Permanent Fund Dividend The Permanent Fund Dividend is a program benefiting Alaskans without a felony conviction who have resided in the state for at least one calendar year preceding the date applied for a dividend and intend to remain an Alaska resident indefinitely at the time applied for a dividend. The amount of each payment is based upon a five-year average of the Permanent Fund's performance and varies widely depending on the stock market and many other factors. Though the payouts have varied from the smallest ($331.29 per person in 1984) and the largest ($3,269.00 per person in 2008 when a one-time $1,200 Alaska Resource Rebate was added to the dividend amount<1>), they usually vary between $600 and $1,500 ($900 and $1,800 when adjusted for 2005 dollars). Although the principal or corpus of the Fund is constitutionally protected, income earned by the Fund, like nearly all State income, is constitutionally defined as general fund money . The first dividend plan would have paid Alaskans $50 for each year of residency up to 20 years, but the U.S. Supreme Court in Zobel v. Williams disapproved the $50 per year formula as an invidious distinction burdening interstate travel. As a result, each qualified resident now receives the same annual amount, regardless of age or years of residency. In effect, this equal-amount aspect mathematically means a greater percentage of added income for people of lower incomes. Conversely, any cut, limit, cap, or end of the equal-amount PFD would mean low-income Alaskans would experience the greatest percentage loss of income. The PFD payout, which comes in or near October of each year, is acknowledged to have a substantial effect on Alaska's economy, both in total and especially in rural Alaska where unemployment can reach 60% and where cash is scarce. Annual individual payout (in nominal dollars): Year Amount 2008 $3,269.00‡ 2007 $1,654.00 2006 $1,106.96 2005 $845.76 2004 $919.84 2003 $1,107.56 2002 $1,540.76 2001 $1,850.28 2000 $1,963.86 1999 $1,769.84 ‡ A one-time $1,200 Alaska Resource Rebate was added to the dividend amount in 2008 "Republicans in Congress this June united to defeat a proposed windfall tax on oil companies, deriding it as a bad idea that would discourage investment in U.S. oil exploration. Over the opposition of oil companies, Republican Gov. Sarah Palin and Alaska's Legislature last year approved a major increase in taxes on the oil industry — a step that has generated stunning new wealth for the state as oil prices soared. This state has the most socialist laws of any state by far, and Palin has benefited as a citizen from socialism, has governed a socialist State, and now shes out waving the capitalism flag...please... This 700 billion dollar bailout supported by Bushy/McCain/Palin and many other Republicans as well as Democrats is the most socialist thing we have done in years. It seems to me that Republicans are too stupid to comprehend what the definition of socialism is, or they are just hypocrites. Nurse for McCain= Someone too stupid to believe people who work for Oil Companies are not people "who actually work" WOOOOOOOOOOOW Dont Tax Me- PEOPLE WHO WORK FOR OIL COMPANIES ARE U.S. CITIZENS TOO. Sounds like you don't want people to get tax reliefe who are "CEO'S" congrats you've just defined Obama's tax plan and you support it. chance thaks for Puma spam but nobody is going to read thats, sorry.

Should We really believe Some Republicans when they say they are Patriots? Considering the fact that they voted for Sarah palin who has such close ties to an organization that wants to secde from the USA . Honestly How Patriotic is That ? McClellan on her mind, Wayne Madsen Report, 10/3/08: Palin's AIP and domestic terrorists Remains of Alaska Separatist Are Identified, NYT, 10/15/04: AIP founder killed over plastic explosives Wayne Madsen Report:-- Palin's adviser base and political affiliations are Klan and neo-Nazi, 9/10/08 Alaska Independence Party October, 2008 Investigation ties Palin to 'extreme right-wing fringe' 10/10/2008 Raw Story: [With Video of Rachel Maddow show] "However, Blumenthal told Maddow that when he and co-author David Neiwert, who has been investigating anti-government militias since the 1990's, interviewed people in Palin's home town of Wasilla, they found that "Sarah Palin is far more intimately associated with the extreme right-wing fringe of Alaska than the media has acknowledged or than she is willing to acknowledge." Blumenthal said that Palin used former AIP chairman Mark Chryson and a local John Birch Society activist known as "Black Helicopter" Steve Stoll "to advance her political career on a local and state level -- and she sought to reward them with plum political appointments." In 1996, Chryson and Stoll helped Palin with her campaign of negative, character-based attacks on the incumbent mayor, and after Palin was elected she attempted to appoint Stoll to the seat she had formerly held on the Wasilla city council -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Palins’ un-American activities 10/10/2008 Salon: "Imagine if the Obamas had hooked up with a violently anti-American group in league with the government of Iran." The blue tarp and duct tape in which the remains were wrapped, officials said, matched a description given by a convicted thief, Manfred West, who confessed last summer that he had killed Mr. Vogler in a plastic-explosives sale gone bad and had then buried him." AIP former chair: "The fires of Hell are glaciers compared to my hate for the American Government" 10/1/2008 Daily Kos: "You get to think why the hell do I owe them anything and then you get mad; and you say to hell with them; and you renounce allegiance; and you pledge your efforts, your effects, your honor, your life, to Alaska; that is how I do it; I am an Alaskan; they know it; I've told them to go to hell in every way I can in a nice way; I took a case to the Supreme Court believing in the Supreme Court, but I'd rather be tried in a whorehouse with the madam as the Judge; there is more Justice in a whorehouse than in the Supreme Court; and if they don't like they know where they can go; ..... and if you think I am ever going to forget that, the fires of Hell are glaciers compared to my hate for the American Government, and I won't be buried under their damn flag; I'll be buried in Dawson and when Alaska is an independent nation they can bring my bones back to Alaska, back to my country." Republican / Obama haters believe What You will even if it is Not the facts . This is a serious question and not a rant . I am asking a question and presnting the facts and reasons why I have asked this question. Come clean Republicans . No one is perfect . the Democrats were forced to take a good look at their short comings as well . Can't you consider doing the same ? I am not worried about Sarah . I just ask HOW REPUBLICANS can call themselve Patriots when they voted for her I am trying to show the facts written about Palin Both postive and negative . I won't for get Wooglet > You are So wise
Did you know a pal of Sarah Palin died in Alaska but was buried in Canada? do you know why ? do you know why Sarah Palin's pal was buried in Canada and not Alaska. Well this pal of the Palins' hatred of the USA was so great that he said "The fires of hell are frozen glaciers compared to my hatred for the American government...and I won't be buried under their damn flag!" Palin was a member of the Alaskan Independence Party which advocates that Alaska break away from America, like the confederate states during the Civil War, to form their own sovereign nation by violence if necessary. Their founder Joe Vogler has said "The fires of hell are frozen glaciers compared to my hatred for the American government...and I won't be buried under their damn flag!" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Vogler are you saying the story is not true?. prove it ...prove that its not true http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/opinion/oped/bal-op.secession15sep15,0,6476927.story http://republicofdogs.net/?p=2867 http://www.politicalbase.com/forums/topic/founder-of-palins-secession-party-hates-usa-damn-flag/9360/ http://www.b12partners.net/wp/2008/09/02/hatred-for-the-american-government/ lol thats right, I am laughing at you.
Alaska has nothing in common with Kansas. Kansas has no caribou, eating raw seal meat, or sled-dog racing,...? What makes republicans think Palin's arctic wilderness ideology remotely resembles anything like conservatism in the heartland? Her husband Todd Palin was a registered Alaskan Independence Party member from 1995 to 2002 when she was mayor from 1996 to 2002. The Alaskan Independence Party advocates that Alaska break away from America, like the confederate states during the Civil War, to form its own soverign nation, using violence if necessary. AIP party members have said that the only reason she was a registered republican and not a registered AIP member was so that she could run for mayor. She and her husband have attended their conventions in years past, and she even addressed their convention earlier this year: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZwvPNXYrIyI Their founder Joe Vogler has said "The fires of hell are frozen glaciers compared to my hatred for the American government...and I won't be buried under their damn flag!" He has also said "I'm an Alaskan, not an American. I've got no use for America or her damned institutions."
Iraq - Our 51st State? Iraq - How about adding another star on our flag and having a new statehood in our union? Think of the benefits - The same as when we purchased Alaska from Russia - But less than 7 million dollars - Sounds like a deal to me. Whats your thoughts?
AnyOne else heard of Sarah Palins Good Friend Joe Vogler This is what she dont want you to know? was the founder of the Alaskan Independence Party Mr. and Mrs Sarah Palin were members.Vogler as stating "I'm an Alaskan, not an American. I've got no use for America or her damned institutions. The fires of hell are frozen glaciers compared to my hatred for the American government. And I won't be buried under their damn flag. I'll be buried in Dawson. And when Alaska is an independent nation they can bring my bones home.
Where to go in California with my 4-year old son? Me and my 4-year old son are going to California in September. We will only be there for about 2 or 3 days. Not too long, so I can't make a week long schedule of things to do or go. I will basically have ONE free day to take him somewhere, but there are so many places. Being a single father and all, I want this to be special for him. We will be in the Hollywood/Beverly Hills area. I saw Disneyland, Six Flags, Legoland, even Universal Studios. I would just hate to take him somewhere special on our ONE free day there, and have it turn out to be something he didn't like. I guess being from Alaska, anything would be exciting to him. The biggest thing we have up here is the Alaska State Fair. lol Thank you everyone!

I'm 11 btw, so this should be a snap ;P Info at the left : In 1912, when there were 48 states, the stars of the flag were arranged in equal rows. In 1959, after Alaska joined the Union, a new arrangement was proposed. Question : Each star on the U.S. flag represents a state. As states joined the Union, the rectangular arrangement of stars was changed. Use the information at the left to make a conjecture (Wtf is that?) about how you think the stars of the flag were arranged in 1912 and in 1959 Gyeh, more questions >.< Write a number that satisfies each set of conditions. a.The greatest three-digit number that is not divisible by 2,3, or 10 b.the least three-digit number that is not divisible by 2,3,5, or 10
John McCain in the majority supporters; should John McCain choose the Young Bright and Beautiful Sarah Palin? Sarah Palin will represent to Obama and his following, their worst nightmare. Here is the Youngest person to ever hold the Governor's Office in the State of Alaska, at the age of 42. Younger and much brighter than Obama, she will blow away the Euthanasia remarks from the foul mouth Obama Mob. Sarah has a past that is filled with much higher achievements than Obama, who has only absenteeism and Affirmative Action to lean on. Check out Sarah Palin's website. Obama will find his slick talk reduced to dick talk, if he is ever confronted by Sarah Palin, who is far more intelligent and patriotic than the Obama who thumbs his nose down at our flag. No surprise that Sarah says to open the ANWAR NOW - Thank You Sarah Palin.. I would like to see feed back on an alternative and more productive electronic chat forum, than the Secular Progressive Yahoo Answers. I am tired of Questions and Answers being deleted, due to non-conformity with their Secular Progressive pro-Obama Agenda. Factual Proof that Obama is Not A Christian by any stretch. The ANWAR has enough Oil to last 10 years. The entire Oil Reserves that stretch from Alaska to Canada's Northwest Territories has enough for 50 years.

Isn't the following an interesting thought? What do you make of it? " Maybe this would be a good time to examine Palin's association with the AIP. The AIP's creation was inspired by the rabidly violent anti-Americanism of its founding father Joe Vogler. The central purpose of the AIP is to drive Alaska's secession from the United States. In 1992 Vogler renounced his allegiance to the United States explaining that, "The fires of hell are frozen glaciers compared to my hatred for the American government." He cursed the stars and stripes, promising, "I won't be buried under their damned flag ... when Alaska is an independent nation they can bring my bones home." Palin has never denounced Vogler or his detestable anti-Americanism." Sissy -- The church Obama belonged to isn't and wasn't racist. Fox news made it look anti-American but the truth could easily be found by looking up the whole clips of Rev. Wright and watching them. All he did was speak the truth. There is no way that Obama's chosen church was anywhere as nuts as Palin's. Besides Sissy, attend to the question at hand. I was asking about Palin's associations. Please answer that question. Emma -- oh dear! And am I to believe the thought that Hungarians are gypsies and thieving is in their blood? I think not! Ayers hasn't been incarcerated for some time. He is doing good works. He has paid his debt to society. etc. Therefor, he is not a terrorist. However, Ossama bin Laden is a terrorist and a buddy of the Bush family. He was a terrorist against the invading Russians before and was partially financed by the US. Captain Bear -- Yep. Might move to Alaska. But isn't Palin being a bit two faced?
Were there ever 49-star U.S. flags? Alaska became a state in January of 1959, Hawaii in August of the same year. With such a short period between them, did anyone start making and distributing flags with 49 stars? Or was Hawaii's impending statehood known far enough in advance that people didn't bother?
Who remembers the 50 Nifty United States song from elementary school? 50 NIFTY UNITED STATES FROM 13 ORIGINAL COLONIES.50 NIFTY STARS IN THE FLAG THAT BILLOWS SO BEAUTIFLY IN THE BREEZE. Joe Vogler: "The fires of hell are frozen glaciers compared to my hatred for the American government..." ? "...and I won't be buried under their damn flag!" Why would Palin join the Alaskan Indepence Party when its founder Joe Vogler said the above quote? They advocate that Alaska break away from America, like the confederate states during the Civil War, to form their own sovereign nation by violence if necessary. Isn't that unAmerican? Isn't that treasonous? Shouldn't they be classified as a terrorist group?
How about those Eskimo's? Shivering Alaskans to Hugo Chavez: Keep your oil POSTED: 9:09 p.m. EDT, October 9, 2006 Adjust font size: ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) -- In Alaska's native villages, the punishing winter cold is already penetrating the walls of the lightly insulated plywood homes, many of the villagers are desperately poor, and heating-oil prices are among the highest in the nation. And yet a few of the small communities want to refuse free heating oil from Venezuela, on the patriotic principle that no foreigner has the right to call their president "the devil." The heating oil is being offered by the petroleum company controlled by Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, President Bush's nemesis. While scores of Alaska's Eskimo and Indian villages say they have no choice but to accept, others would rather suffer. "As a citizen of this country, you can have your own opinion of our president and our country. But I don't want a foreigner coming in here and bashing us," said Justine Gunderson, administrator for the tribal council in the Aleut village of Nelson Lagoon. "Even though we're in economically dire straits, it was the right choice to make." Nelson Lagoon residents pay more than $5 a gallon for oil -- or at least $300 a month per household -- to heat their homes along the wind-swept coast of the Bering Sea, where temperatures can dip to minus-15. About one-quarter of the 70 villagers are looking for work, in part because Alaska's salmon fishing industry has been hit hard by competition from fish farms. The donation to Alaska's native villages has focused attention on the rampant poverty and high fuel prices in a state that is otherwise awash in oil -- and oil profits. In 2005, 86 percent of the Alaska's general fund, or $2.8 billion, came from oil from the North Slope. The Aleutian Pribilof Islands Association, a native nonprofit organization that would have handled the heating oil donation on behalf of 291 households in Nelson Lagoon, Atka, St. Paul and St. George, rejected the offer because of the insults Chavez has hurled at Bush. Chavez called Bush "the devil" in a speech to the United Nations last month. He has also called the president a terrorist and denounced the war in Iraq.(Watch former President Bush call Chavez "an ass" -- 2:10) Dimitri Philemonof, president and chief executive of the association, said accepting the aid would be "compromising ourselves." "I think we have some duty to our country, and I think it's loyalty," he said. Over the past two years, Citgo, the Venezuelan government's Texas-based oil subsidiary, has given millions of gallons of discounted heating oil to the poor in several states and cities -- including New York, Connecticut, Vermont, Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Maine -- in what is widely seen as an effort by Chavez to embarrass and irritate the U.S. government and make himself look good. Maine Gov. John Baldacci, who approved an agreement last winter to buy discounted oil, said he had no plans this year to seek a similar arrangement. In Boston, Massachusetts, a City Council member wants a landmark Citgo sign near Fenway Park taken down and replaced with an American flag. In Florida, a lawmaker asked the state to cancel Citgo's exclusive contract to sell fuel at turnpike service stations. About 150 native villages in Alaska have accepted money for heating oil from Citgo. The oil company does not operate in Alaska, so instead of sending oil, it is donating about $5.3 million to native nonprofit organizations to buy 100 gallons this winter for each of more than 12,000 households. "When you have a dire need and it is a matter of survival for your people, it doesn't matter where, what country, the gift or donation comes from," said Virginia Commack, an elder in the arctic village of Ambler, an impoverished Eskimo community of 280 where residents are paying $7.25 a gallon for fuel. For years, Alaska natives have accused the state and federal governments of sending too little money to their tiny, far-flung communities, where fuel and grocery prices are bloated by the high costs of delivery by plane and barge. An editorial last month in the Anchorage Daily News bashed the Legislature's rejection in March of an $8.8 million state supplement to a federal program that helps poor Alaskans with home heating costs. "It's embarrassing that residents in a state with so much oil wealth should be looking to a foreign nation for help," the newspaper said. "It's hard to blame villagers for accepting the gift." A spokesman for Gov. Frank Murkowski, John Manly, said the governor believes Chavez's donation is a ploy to undermine Americans' faith in their government. But he said it is up to each village to make its own decision. "It seems like a very strange irony that we produce the oil and yet every year there seems to be a chronic problem in getting the fuel to people that need it," Manly said. Joan Eddy, principal and teacher at Nelson Lagoon's school, said most buildings in town were erected 30 to 40 years ago, which makes them pretty old, considering how they get battered by the constant 20-25 mph wind coming off the ocean. Their heating systems are aging, too. She noted the fuel barge is late arriving this year, and said residents are turning on their furnaces for only a few hours in the morning and at night. "We're conserving as much as we can because we are concerned. It looks like it's going to be a snowy winter and cold," she said. Copyright 2006 The Associated Press. O.K., Some think that the article is too long, or that there is no question contained within the article & one thinks that I am ignorant of the usage of the name "eskimos" , I have lived amongst the various Native peoples of the entire Aleutian chain and the mainland of Alaska. Heres the "Question" , Would you go without heating oil in this situation in order to show your patriotism? Hows that? Happy? GAWSHK!
Wouldnt it be great to turn on the tv and hear the President or a republican or democrat give this speech? My Fellow Americans: As you all know, the defeat of Iraq regime has been completed. Since congress does not want to spend any more money on this war, our mission in Iraq is complete. This morning I gave the order for a complete removal of all American forces from Iraq. This action will be complete within 30 days. It is now to begin the reckoning. Before me, I have two lists. One list contains the names of countries which have stood by our side during the Iraq conflict. This list is short. The United Kingdom, Spain , Bulgaria, Australia, and Poland are some of the countries listed there. The other list contains everyone not on the first list. Most of the world's nations are on that list. My press secretary will be distributing copies of both lists later this evening. Let me start by saying that effective immediately, foreign aid to those nations on List 2 ceases immediately and indefinitely. The money saved during the first year alone will pretty much pay for the costs of the Iraqi war. The American people are no longer going to pour money into third world Hellholes and watch those government leaders grow fat on corruption. Need help with a famine? Wrestling with an epidemic? Call France. In the future, together with Congress, I will work to redirect this money toward solving the vexing social problems we still have at home. On that note, a word to terrorist organizations. Screw with us and we will hunt you down and eliminate you and all your friends from the face of the earth. Thirsting for a gutsy country to terrorize? Try France, or maybe China. I am ordering the immediate severing of diplomatic relations with France, Germany, and Russia. Thanks for all your help, comrades. We are retiring from NATO as well. Bon chance, mes amis. I have instructed the Mayor of New York City to begin towing the many UN diplomatic vehicles located in Manhattan with more than two unpaid parking tickets to sites where those vehicles will be stripped, shredded and crushed. I don't care about whatever treaty pertains to this. You creeps have tens of thousands of unpaid tickets. Pay those tickets tomorrow or watch your precious Benzes, Beamers and limos be turned over to some of the finest chop shops in the world. I love New York. A special note to our neighbors. Canada is on List 2. Since we are likely to be seeing a lot more of each other, you folks might want to try not pissing us off for a change. Mexico is also on List 2. President Fox and his entire corrupt government really need an attitude adjustment. I will have a couple extra tank and infantry divisions sitting around. Guess where I am going to put em? Yep, border security. Oh, by the way, the United States is abrogating the NAFTA treaty - starting now. We are tired of the one-way highway. Immediately, we'll be drilling for oil in Alaska - which will take care of this country's oil needs for decades to come. If you're an environmentalist who opposes this decision, I refer you to List 2 above: pick a country and move there. They care. It is time for America to focus on its own welfare and its own citizens. Some will accuse us of isolationism. I answer them by saying, "darn tootin." Nearly a century of trying to help folks live a decent life around the world has only earned us the undying enmity of just about everyone on the planet. It is time to eliminate hunger in America. It is time to eliminate homelessness in America. To the nations on List 1, a final thought. Thank you guys. We owe you and we won't forget. To the nations on List 2, a final thought: You might want to learn to speak Arabic. God bless America. Thank you and good night. What would happen if Americans went to Mexico and walked the streets and demanded there rights waving the American flag?
I still don't think the GOP holds my interests? I am registered as an independent and I vote both Democrat and Republican. I am watching RNC now I liked McCain in 2000 and I don't like him in 2008. I am keeping my eye on Palin now and McCain called out Obama for not wherein a American flag Lapel pin and Plain wasn't wherein a Lapel pin. She said "I am prod of America and I all ways will be proud of America". That's scary to me if the United States acted like the Nazis or the Communist would you be proud of America? Don't get me wrong I love this country but I am not proud of it I am disappointed most other country's think we are a joke. We Spend more then we make I don't see how cutting taxes will work when we are in so much dept. I know Alaska could have cut taxes but Alaska got more money then any other state in earmarks so they could cut taxes. My question is why is this race so close?
Do you think Sarah Palin is an extremist ? Let's see. She believes that abortion is murder and that woman who have abortions should be prosecuted. She believes that unmarried sex is wrong, except with her own family. Her stand on abstenence only sex education is responsible for thousands of abortions every year. She believes that God has nothing better to do than to build her a pipeline. She said that Alaskan earmarks were "a gift from God". She believes in speaking in tongues. She believes that God personally ordered the occupation of Iraq. She believes that the end of the world is nigh and that only people from Alaska will be saved. She believes that God wants the Alaska to be a separate country and for the United States of America to be disolved or at least diminished. She worships a minister who says that the United States of America is a "scourge against mankind" and who has damned the American flag. She tried to ban books from the library. She has said that God wants the US to invade other countries. As mayor, she started a policy of charging rape victims for the costs of investigating the rape. Her town was the only town in the United States to do so. She wants her own version of Christianity taught in the public schools. She is against the teaching of science and evolution in schools. She is against contraception for married couples She believes that her brand of Christianity should be a mandated state religion. Jews, Hindus, Moslems, Catholics, and Protestants need not apply.
Obama Now A Terrorist? So now the tactic against Obama is he is American and a terrorist because he has ties to someone who did some questionable actions in the 60s. Interesting. So should we now talk about the fact that the Sarah Palin and her husband have deep ties to the Alaska Independence Party? Should we talk about the fact that the founder of the Alaska Independence Party once professed his "hatred for the American government" and cursed the American flag as a "damn flag?" Should we now talk about the fact that the Alaska Independence Party advocates Alaska ceceding from the Untited States and becoming a separate nation? If Obama's associations are in question...wouldn't it be fair to question Palin's?

Who remembers the the year 1904? 100 Years ========= THE YEAR 1904 Maybe this will boggle your mind, I know it did mine! The year is 1904, one hundred years ago. What a difference a century makes! Here are some of the U.S. statistics for 1904: The average life expectancy in the U.S. was 47 years. Only 14 percent of the homes in the U.S. had a bathtub. Only 8 percent of the homes had a telephone. A three-minute call from Denver to New York City cost eleven dollars. There were only 8,000 cars in the U.S., and only 144 miles of paved roads. The maximum speed limit in most cities was 10 mph. Alabama, Mississippi, Iowa, and Tennessee were each more heavily populated than California. With a mere 1.4 million residents, California was only the 21st most populous state in the Union. The tallest structure in the world was the Eiffel Tower. The average wage in the U.S. was 22 cents an hour. The average U.S. worker made between $200 and $400 per year. A competent accountant could expect to earn $2000 per year, a dentist $2,500 per year, a veterinarian between $1,500 and $4,000 per year, and a mechanical engineer about $5,000 per year. More than 95 percent of all births in the U.S. took place at home. Ninety percent of all U.S. physicians had no college education. Instead, they attended medical schools, many of which were condemned in the press and by the government as "substandard." Sugar cost four cents a pound. Eggs were fourteen cents a dozen. Coffee was fifteen cents a pound. Most women only washed their hair once a month, and used borax or egg yolks for shampoo. Canada passed a law prohibiting poor people from entering the country for any reason. The five leading causes of death in the U.S. were: 1. Pneumonia and influenza 2. Tuberculosis 3. Diarrhea 4. Heart disease 5. Stroke The American flag had 45 stars. Arizona, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Hawaii, and Alaska hadn't been admitted to the Union yet. The population of Las Vegas, Nevada, was 30. Crossword puzzles, canned beer, and iced tea hadn't been invented. There was no Mother's Day or Father's Day. Two of 10 U.S. adults couldn't read or write. Only 6 percent of all Americans had graduated high school. Marijuana, heroin, and morphine were all available over the counter at corner drugstores. According to one pharmacist, "Heroin clears the complexion, gives buoyancy to the mind, regulates the stomach and bowels, and is, in fact, a perfect guardian of health." Eighteen percent of households in the U.S had at least one full- time servant or domestic. There were only about 230 reported murders in the entire U.S. And I forwarded this from someone else without typing it myself, and sent it to you in a matter of seconds! Try to imagine what it may be like in another 100 years .... it staggers the mind.

Why does it Appear that Sarah Palin has far more hands on Experience at governing, than the DEMS BHO.? Lets see. Palin. Mayor. of a small town. 9,000 people Gov, Of the country's Largest State. She has by law been mandated to balance budgets both city and state. She has been directly responsible for the running of agency's under her flag. Fire, Police, Bridges and Roads, Health, Welfare. Buck had to stop with her. Barack Obama. Junior Senator for less than 147 days actually on the floor. No experience actually hands on being responsible for anything except for having to show up once in awhile to vote, and he couldn't even do that. Now if I am seeing this correctly our Back end of the ticket has far more experience than the Dems front end of the ticket. Through in Biden to. He has never been held accountable for any form of government during his 36 years in the Senate. What you think America can this be right. The little unknown woman from Alaska has far more experience than both Dem candidates. Ment to say throw in biden to. Darrin do you do comedy writing. Strong legal mind. The failed as an attorney. He only represented 14 people in court. And lost every case. I have served with Asst. US attorneys who could run circles around BHO. Even in the smallest of jurisdictions in this country. So please. Don't inflate the mans resume he has none. Name One thing I have listed that she has done. that he has done.
How do people feel about this news editorial over Illegal immigration? Illegal immigration is way out of control http://www.lancastereaglegazette.com/article/20090705/OPINION02/907050323/1014/OPINION IT is unclear when immigration to America first started or who started it. The most accepted argument is that migratory tribes from northeast Asia crossed into what is now Alaska and settled in a warmer climate. What is clear is that small groups of Vikings migrated to North America about 1,000 years ago and the great European migration started about five hundred years ago. Advertisement During the colonial era most immigrants came from northern Europe and later from all of Western Europe and finally, Eastern Europe as well. During the mid-19th century immigration reached annual levels in the 300,000s, then shrank during the Civil War era only to jump back again after the war. Following the Immigration Act of 1903, the annual rate rose to levels of around 1 million, with a marked drop-off during World War I. The level remained low following the War, until the Immigration Amnesty Act of 1990 when the level of nearly 1 million per year resumed. This level has been maintained ever since. The majority of this immigration came from Europe: the same civilization as the U.S. Recently, a surge in Mexican immigration developed, by a civilization different from the U.S. From 1820 to 1997 - 178 years - 2,808,613 legal Mexican immigrants entered the U.S. Then, from 1998 to 2007, there were 4,419,394 legal entries. Something else also happened: Millions of Mexicans marched across the border in illegal entry. The various states have developed data on the number of illegal immigrants in each state generating a moderately reliable estimate of about 11.6 million: California, Texas and Florida having the largest populations. Of this total, just less than 6.6 million are from Mexico: compared to the 4. 4 million legal Mexican entries in the past decade. It is estimated that about half a million continue to illegally enter each year. The situation is out of control. The most significant problem of illegal immigrants is their failure to assimilate into the American culture. Because they are illegal, they are forced to live in the shadows of American life. They tend to socially huddle together with other illegals, failing to assimilate and prolonging the use of their native language. To accommodate this shortfall, many businesses now post advertisements and store directions in both English and Spanish. In Lancaster, large chain stores have Spanish instructions on their front door. Its long-term continued use creates the high likelihood of the U.S. becoming a bi-lingual country. Bilingualism has created extreme problems in Canada, fostering separatism, particularly in the Province of Quebec. The issue was best described a century ago by President Theodore Roosevelt: "In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But, this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American ... There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American Flag ... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language ... And we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is loyalty for the American people." This situation requires action by Congress, lest it engulf the country. There appear two very different courses of action: # Allowing the illegals to assimilate into the American culture by changing their status to some form of legality, or # Imposing huge fines on employers - say $10,000 - for each day that an illegal is employed. Without jobs, they will "self-deport" back to Mexico. Both courses have problems of implementation and enforcement. The issues should be debated in town halls, state legislatures and the Congress because action must be taken. A few states - Florida, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California - have most of the illegals and thus will bear the brunt of whatever action is taken. Their concerns must be given heavy weight in the decisions which must be made. - Dick Scamehorn, a longtime Lancaster resident, is Ohio University's Executive-in-Residence Emeritus and former President of Diamond Power.
How can liberals still claim theres no liberal mainstream media bias after this story? The same media that obsessed over Quayle's 'Potatoe' mistake, ignores Obama's '57 States comment. Obama’s snubbing the American flag during the National Athem and dislike for wearing American flag lapels must have taken their toll, as he ignorantly blurted out that he had visited 57 of the 60 states: "It is wonderful to be back in Oregon," Obama said. "Over the last 15 months, we’ve traveled to every corner of the United States. I’ve now been in 57 states? I think one left to go. Alaska and Hawaii, I was not allowed to go to even though I really wanted to visit, but my staff would not justify it." NewsBusters.org

Keyes and Serge are bought together by Gen. Purcell of U.S. government to determine a cause for the deaths in Boston. Keyes deduces that since he is a geologist and Serge a physicist, the people who died had one thing in common - they had artificial pacemakers. Keyes initially believes the cause to be an electromagnetic pulse. Soon after pigeons in London's Trafalgar Square lose their internal navigational ability and start smashing into windscreens and breaking panes of glass. Upon seeing this news relayed in a webcast, Keyes realizes the cause of these anomalies: Earth's core has stopped rotating. Within a year, the Earth will lose its electromagnetic shield and be fried by solar radiation. A team of "terranauts" is recruited to drill down to Earth's core and set off a series of nuclear explosions in an attempt to restart the core's rotation. Purcell confronts Zimsky over whether a mysterious Project DESTINI was responsible for the impending disaster; Zimsky vehemently denies this and even states he believes DESTINI can resolve the world's predicament. Eventually the vehicle is launched in the north Pacific ocean, above the Mariana Trench. Twelve hours into the mission and 700 miles underground, the crew encounter 'static' on the screen. Keyes reacts quickly, stating that he never programmed the guidance system to recognise empty space which is being represented as static. The vehicle drills through the outer shell of a gigantic cavernous amethyst geode, falling under gravity and eventually coming to a stop. The crew then attempts extravehicular activity to free the vehicle from a large crystal embebbed in its sonic laser. They are under pressure however, as magma begins pouring through the entrance they created. One of the crew, Bob, dies when a piece of molten rock falls through his helmet. After resuming the mission, the crew encounters another problem: Keyes' guidance system detects black objects in its path which Zimsky realizes are mountain-sized diamonds. Childs narrowly avoids them but at the last moment, the vehicle is punctured and a hull breach occurs. Unfortunately, Brazzelton is forced to eject the damaged compartment with Serge still inside, who dies after the compartment is crushed under intense pressure. 1700 miles deep, the vehicle begins to pick up speed, increasing from 90 to 130 knots in seconds. Keyes deduces that the outer core's liquid is too thin, with the nuclear detonation unlikely to restart the core's spin. During this revelation, Purcell and Zimsky reveal DESTINI: a secret facility in Alaska with which they can start earthquakes anywhere on the planet. This weapon, standing for Deep Earth Seismic Trigger INItiative, is revealed to be the cause of the stalling of Earth's core. While the team is underground, the world is struck by more disasters. Huge blasts of microwave radiation from the sun break through the atmosphere, melting the Golden Gate Bridge and frying San Francisco. Upon seeing the devastation, Gen. Purcell decides to activate DESTINI in case the vehicle mission fails. Rat notices this and sends a covert message to Keyes, asking him if he can help. Keyes replies they need more time, and to delay DESTINI. Rat attempts to remotely shut down hydroelectric dams in Alaska but is denied by security systems. Zimsky works out that instead of a single large detonation, a series of smaller ones will achieve wave propagation and restart the core. They split the bomb into fragments, and deposit them around the core inside ejected vehicle compartments. The Virgil can't eject compartments without them being damaged, so Braz goes into the crawlspace at the front of the ship to activate a gear which makes the ship capable of manual overrides. Braz dies, though, because the crawlspace is filled with 9000 degree fluid and his suit can withstand only half that. However, due to some miscalculations, the final bomb needs to have 30% more energy which must be obtained from the plutonium in the vehicle's reactor. Unfortunately, Zimsky becomes trapped inside a compartment along with a bomb and dies as the bomb detonates. The plan eventually works, with the core resuming its spinning. Meanwhile, seconds before activation, Rat manages to gain access to DESTINI and diverts power from the weapon to Coney Island, giving the crew valuable time to fulfill their mission. As the ship's reactor is completely drained of power, Keyes and Childs are seemingly stranded in the core, however, Keyes remembers a property of unobtainium and discovers that the ship's hull can be used as a "giant solar panel". Implementing this new idea, they return to the surface of the planet riding on currents. Later, Rat sends files on what actually happened and the now-dead "unsung heroes" to many organizations and agencies across the world.

How can House Republican leaders stave off a rout in 2008? How can House Republican leaders stave off a rout in 2008? The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC), responsible for electing Republican House members, had a pathetic $1.6 million in cash at the end of August. Republican retirements from the House continue to rack up, including several in vulnerable districts. The issues seem to be stacked against the GOP as Democrats exploit issues such as health care and the Iraq war. There has been talk of a few fixes, including firing key NRCC staffers and returning to old fundraising programs. These steps may help, but House Minority Leader John Boehner (R., Ohio) should consider another idea worth millions of dollars all on its own: Prune the dead branches in the caucus now. Republicans need an ethical Housecleaning if they are ever to return to the majority again. This will require strong leadership and creativity. The real question is just how ruthless the reputedly non-confrontational Boehner can be when his legacy is on the line. Boehner will show his mettle by how he deals with two members currently under serious ethical clouds: Reps. Don Young (R., Alaska) and John Doolittle (R., Calif.). It understates the case merely to say that corruption hurts the Republican image. It also affects something everyone in Washington understands — the bottom line. During the 2006 cycle, The NRCC spent $1.5 million trying to save former Rep. Don Sherwood (R., Pa.), whose mistress had accused him of trying to choke her. Sherwood’s refusal to quit — and Republicans’ failure to force him out — also cost the GOP his conservative northeast Pennsylvania district. By refusing to step aside until very late in the process, former congressman and current federal inmate Bob Ney (R., Ohio) cost the NRCC more than $1 million when they tried in vain to save his seat from Democratic takeover. Rep. Charles Taylor (R., N.C.), who was both ethically and truth-challenged while in Congress (recall his unlikely explanation as to why he did not vote on CAFTA), cost the NRCC $1.5 million. Rep. Curt Weldon (R., Pa.), whose lingering ethics problems exploded with federal raids just before the 2006 election, cost the committee $3.6 million as he went down to defeat. Disgraced former Rep. Mark Foley’s (R., Fla.) “unusual” behavior toward House pages had raised flags with Republican leaders and senior staff as early as 2002. When they failed to show him the door after more odd behavior came to their attention in 2006, Foley cost the committee $1.6 million directly, and millions more when his instant-message sex scandal soured the whole national political environment for the GOP. These are only the most prominent examples of corruption, and they already add up to $9 million wasted because of tainted members — more than ten percent of the $81 million the NRCC spent in independent expenditures in 2006. That amount does not include the indirect effect that corruption had on the GOP image, nor the millions that Republican donors wasted in giving directly to tainted Republicans. With respect to Reps. Young and Doolittle, two key items hit newspapers this week. First, 17-term Rep. Don Young, who is trailing a Democratic challenger for reelection, spent more campaign money on his own legal defense than he raised in the third quarter. Second, a fellow California Republican, back-bench conservative John Campbell, called on Doolittle not to seek reelection. Both Young and Doolittle are currently subjects of federal investigations. Neither shows any indication he will step aside, and both are likely to lose their seats if they run for reelection. The feds raided Doolittle’s Virginia home earlier this year in connection with his ties to imprisoned lobbyist Jack Abramoff. Unless defeated in a primary, he will almost certainly lose a 61-percent Bush district — about as safe a Republican House seat as there is. Young, the powerful author of the 2006 transportation bill, is far more formidable for his seniority. He was responsible for earmarking funds in the 2005 Transportation Bill for the Knik Arm Bridge (also known as “Don Young’s Way”), which if built could massively boost his son-in law’s property value. Young is accused of altering another earmark in that bill after it passed Congress and before it was signed by President Bush. The illicit change, now opposed by the Florida congressman it was supposed to benefit, would help a major Florida contributor to Young’s campaign. Watchdog groups are trying, probably in vain, to make the House Ethics committee open an investigation. That may seem like enough to sink Young, but the federal investigation into his dealings comes on top of that. It pertains to an Alaskan contractor whose employees have given Young $180,000 in campaign cash since 1993. The CEO of that firm, Veco, has pleaded guilty to bribing Alaska state legislators and testified that his company “donated” labor for Sen. Ted Stevens’s (R) home-remodeling project. Republican leaders have tools for forcing out problematic members. At the very least, they can pressure or even force them off committees (Doolittle had to step down from the appropriations committee in April, but Young retains all of his posts). But they can do more. If they dare, they can open ethics investigations against their own members, call for their resignation, or even expel them from the caucus. If party leaders have traditionally shuddered at such measures, they have been even more hesitant to support primary challenges against incumbents. But given what is at stake, why should even that threat be off the table? In Sherwood’s case, he needed only a small push. His no-name opponent in the 2006 Republican primary spent less than $5,000 and took 46 percent of the vote. Had she won, she would today be a Republican congresswoman representing that heavily Republican district. Instead, the NRCC wasted $1.5 million, and must now spend even more to win back the seat. House Republicans’ salvation will ultimately require that Leader Boehner flex his muscle and deal out some tough love. In the recent fight over the NRCC, he shied away from purging two staffers he believed to be hurting the party. But can he purge two congressmen who could hurt it so much more?

Handled himself with enormous courage, dignity, grace, determination, and leadership in the aftermath of the September 11, 2001 hijackings and anthrax attacks. He almost single-handedly held this country together during those searing days: Just three days after the attacks, in his address at the National Cathedral, the President reassured the nation when he said: "War has been waged against us by stealth and deceit and murder. This nation is peaceful, but fierce when stirred to anger. This conflict was begun on the timing and terms of others. It will end in a way, and at an hour, of our choosing." On Friday, September 14, 2001, President Bush visited Ground Zero. Standing on a crushed and burned fire engine atop the smoldering pile at Ground Zero, he put his arm around a retired firefighter who had volunteered to help, and began speaking to the crowd. Rescue workers shouted that they could not hear him. Someone handed him a small American flag and bullhorn. The President spontaneously shouted: "I can hear you. The rest of the world hears you. And the people who knocked these buildings down will hear all of us soon." The crowd roared with cheers and chants of "USA! USA! USA!" Then he raised that American flag and rallied a nation. Killed Clinton's CO2 rules that were choking off all of the electricity surplus to California. 8. Provided matching grants for state programs that help private landowners protect rare species. Defense & Foreign Policy 1. Successfully executed two wars in the aftermath of 9/11/01: Afghanistan and Iraq. 50 million people who had lived under tyrannical regimes now live in freedom. 2. Saddam Hussein is now in prison. His two murderous sons are dead. All but a handful of the regime's senior members were killed or captured. 3. Leader by leader and member by member, al Maida is being hunted down in dozens of countries around the world. Of the senior al Qaeda leaders, operational managers, and key facilitators the U.S. Government has been tracking, nearly two-thirds have been taken into custody or killed. The detentions or deaths of senior al Qaeda leaders, including Khalid Shaykh Muhammad, the mastermind of 9/11, and Muhammad Atef, Osama bin Laden's second-in-command until his death in late 2001, have been important in the War on Terror. 4. Disarmed Libya of its chemical, nuclear and biological WMD's without bribes or bloodshed. 5. Continues to execute the War On Terror, getting worldwide cooperation to track funds/terrorists. Has cut off much of the terrorists' funding, and captured or killed many key leaders of the al Qaeda network. 6. Initiated a comprehensive review of our military, which was completed just prior to 9/11/01, and which accurately reported that ASYMMETRICAL WARFARE capabilities were critical in the 21st Century. 7. Killed the old US/Soviet Union ABM Treaty that was preventing the U.S. from deploying our ABM defenses. 8. The military has already upgraded about 10 percent of its inventory and expects to modernize 76,000 additional homes this year. 20. Is working to tighten restrictions on military-technology exports. 21. Brought back our EP-3 intel plane and crew from China without any bribes or bloodshed. Globalization & Internationalism 1. Challenged the United Nations to live up to their responsibilities and not become another League of Nations (in other words, showed the UN to be completely irrelevant). 2. Killed U.S. involvement in the International Criminal Court. 3. Told the United Nations we weren't interested in their plans for gun control (i.e., the International Ban on Small Arms Trafficking Treaty).* 4. The only President since the founding of the UN to essentially tell that organization it is irrelevant. He said: "The conduct of the Iraqi regime is a threat to the authority of the United Nations, and a threat to peace. Iraq has answered a decade of UN demands with a decade of defiance. All the world now faces a test, and the United Nations a difficult and defining moment. Are Security Council resolutions to be honored and enforced, or cast aside without consequence? Will the United Nations serve the purpose of its founding, or will it be irrelevant?" We all know the outcome and the answer. 5. Told the Congress and the world, "America will never seek a permission slip to defend the security of our country." Government Reform 1. Improved government efficiency by putting hundreds of thousands of jobs put up for bid. This weakens public-sector unions and cuts undeserved pay raises. 2. Initiated review of all federal agencies with the goal of eliminating federal jobs (completed September 2003) in an effort to reduce the size of the federal government while increasing private sector jobs. 3. Led the most extensive reorganization the Federal bureaucracy in over 50 years: After 9/11, condensed 20+ overlapping agencies and their intelligence sectors into one agency, the Department of Homeland Security.* 4. Ordered each agency to draft a five-year plan to restructure itself, with fewer managers. 5. Converted federal service contracts to performance-based contracts wherever possible so that the contractor has measurable performance goals. Health 1. Strengthen the National Health Service Corps to put more physicians in the neediest areas, and make its scholarship funds tax-free. 2. Double the research budget of the National Institutes of Health. 3. Signed Medicare Reform, which includes: A 10-year privatization option. Prescription drug benefits: Prior to this reform, Medicare paid for extended hospital stays for ulcer surgery, for example, at a cost of about $28,000 per patient. Yet Medicare would not pay for the drugs that eliminate the cause of most ulcers, drugs that cost about $500 a year. Now, drug coverage under Medicare will allow seniors to replace more expensive surgeries and hospitalizations with less expensive prescription medicine. More health care choices: As President Bush stated, "…when seniors have the ability to make choices, health care plans within Medicare will have to compete for their business by offering higher quality service [at lower cost]. For the seniors of America, more choices and more control will mean better health care. These are the kinds of health care options we give to the members of Congress and federal employees. What's good for members of Congress is also good for seniors. New Health Savings Accounts: Effective January 1, 2004, Americans can set aside up to $4,500 every year, tax free, to save for medical expenses. Depending on your tax bracket, that means you'll save between 10 to 35 percent on any costs covered by money in your account. Every year, the money not spent would stay in the account and gain interest tax-free, just like an IRA. These accounts will be good for small business owners, and employees. More businesses can focus on covering workers for major medical problems, such as hospitalization for an injury or illness. At the same time, employees and their families will use these accounts to cover doctors visits, or lab tests, or other smaller costs. Some employers will contribute to employee health accounts. This will help more American families get the health care they need at the price they can afford. Homeland Security, Border Enforcement & Immigration 1. *See Government Reform above. Under President Bush's leadership, America has made an unprecedented commitment to homeland security. 2. Has CONSTRUCTION in process on the first 10 ABM silos in Alaska so that America will have a defense against North Korean nukes. Has ordered national and theater ballistic missile defenses to be deployed by 2004. 3. Announced a 9.7% increase in government-wide homeland security funding in his FY 2005 budget, nearly tripling the FY 2001 levels (excluding the Department of Defense and Project BioShield). 4. Before DHS was created, there were inspectors from three different agencies of the Federal Government and Border Patrol officers protecting our borders. Through DHS, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) now consolidates all border activities into a single agency to create "one face at the border." This not only better secures the borders of the United States, but it also eliminates many of the inefficiencies that occurred under the old system. With over 18,000 CBP inspectors and 11,000 Border Patrol agents, CBP has 29,000 uniformed officers on our borders. 5. The Border Patrol is continuing installation of monitoring devices along the borders to detect illegal activity. 6. Launched Operation Tarmac to investigate businesses and workers in the secure areas of domestic airports and ensure immigration law compliance. Since 9/11, DHS has audited 3,640 businesses, examined 259,037 employee records, arrested 1,030 unauthorized workers, and participated in the criminal indictment of 774 individuals. 7. Since September 11, 2001, the Coast Guard has conducted more than 124,000 port security patrols, 13,000 air patrols, boarded more than 92,000 vessels, interdicted over 14,000 individuals attempting to enter the United States illegally, and created and maintained more than 90 Maritime Security Zones. 8. Announced the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS), an internet-based system that is improving America's ability to track and monitor foreign students and exchange visitors. Over 870,000 students are registered in SEVIS. Of 285 completed field investigations, 71 aliens were arrested. 9. This week, the US-VISIT program began to digitally collect biometric identifiers to record the entry and exit of aliens who travel into the U.S on a visa. Together with the standard information, this new program will confirm compliance with visa and immigration policies. 10. Eliminated INS bureaucratic redundancies and lack of accountability. 11. Split the Immigration and Naturalization Service into two agencies: one to protect the border and interior, the other to deal with naturalization. 12. Signed the workplace verification bill to prevent hiring of illegal aliens. 13. Established a six-month deadline for processing immigration applications. 14. Information regarding nearly 100% of all containerized cargo is carefully screened by DHS before it arrives in the United States. Higher risk shipments are physically inspected for terrorist weapons and contraband prior to being released from the port of entry. Advanced technologies are being deployed to identify warning signs of chemical, biological, or radiological attacks. Since September 11, 2001, hundreds of thousands of first responders across America have been trained to recognize and respond to the effects of a WMD attack. Judiciary & Tort Reform 1. Is urging federal liability reform to eliminate frivolous lawsuits. 2. Killed the liberal ABA's unconstitutional role in vetting federal judges. The Senate is supposed to advise and consent, not the ABA. 3. Is nominating strong, conservative judges to the judiciary. 4. Supports class action reform bill which limits lawyer fees so that more settlement money goes to victims. Politics 1. His leadership resulted in Republican gains in the House and Senate, solidifying Republican control of both houses of Congress and the presidency. 2. Signed an EO enforcing the Supreme Court's Beck decision regarding union dues being used for political campaigns against individual's wishes. Second Amendment 1. Ordered Attorney General Ashcroft to formally notify the Supreme Court that the OFFICIAL U.S. government position on the 2nd Amendment is that it supports INDIVIDUAL rights to own firearms, and is NOT a Leftist-imagined "collective" right. 2. Signed TWO bills into law that arm our pilots with handguns in the cockpit. 3. Currently pushing for full immunity from lawsuits for our national gun manufacturers. 4. *See Globalization & Internationalism. Traditional Values, Compassion & Volunteerism 1. Endorses and promotes "The Responsibility Era." President Bush often speaks of the necessity of personal responsibility and civic volunteerism. He said, "In a compassionate society, people respect one another and take responsibility for the decisions they make in life. My hope is to change the culture from one that has said, if it feels good, do it; if you've got a problem, blame somebody else — to one in which every single American understands that he or she is responsible for the decisions that you make; you're responsible for loving your children with all your heart and all your soul; you're responsible for being involved with the quality of the education of your children; you're responsible for making sure the community in which you live is safe; you're responsible for loving your neighbor, just like you would like to be loved yourself." 2. Started the USA Freedom Corps, the most comprehensive clearinghouse of volunteer opportunities ever offered. For the first time in history, Americans can enter geographic information about where they want to get involved, such as state or zip code, as well as areas of interest ranging from education to the environment, and they can access volunteer opportunities offered by more than 50,000 organizations across the country and around the world. 3. Established the The White House Office and the Centers for the Faith-Based and Community Initiative — located in seven Federal agencies. The faith-based initiative supports the essential work of these important organizations. The goal is to make sure that grassroots leaders can compete on an equal footing for federal dollars, receive greater private support, and face fewer bureaucratic barriers. Work focuses on at-risk youth, ex-offenders, the homeless and hungry, substance abusers, those with HIV/AIDS, and welfare-to-work families. 4. The White House released a guidebook fully describing the Administration's belief that faith-based groups have a Constitutionally-protected right to maintain their religious identity through hiring — even when Federal funds are involved. 5. Issued an EO implementing the Supreme Court's Olmstead ruling, which requires moving disabled people from institutions to community-based facilities when possible. 6. Increased funding for low-interest loan programs to help people with disabilities purchase devices to assist them. 7. Revised the Department of Housing and Urban Development's Section 8 rent subsidies to disabled people, permitting them to use up to a year's worth of vouchers to finance down payments on homes. HUD has started pilot programs in 11 states. 8. Committed US funds to purchase medicine for millions of men, women and children now suffering with AIDS in Africa. 9. Heeding the words of our own Declaration of Independence, the president laid out the non-negotiable demands of human dignity for all people everywhere. On January 29, 2002, he said, "No nation owns these aspirations, and no nation is exempt from them. We have no intention of imposing our culture. But America will always stand firm for the non-negotiable demands of human dignity." As stated by the President, they are a virtual manifesto of conservative principles: Equal Justice Freedom of Speech Limited Government Power Private Property Rights Religious Tolerance Respect for Women Rule of Law
Why do libs avoid President Bush's Accomplishments? President Bush's Accomplishments Spotted at Rightnation.us and GOPUSA.com reprinted here for your pleasure. I encourage people who support Bush to learn how effective our President has been, and liberals ought to browse this too. Just remember, the liberal media can't cover up the truth of his accomplishments. The Bush Administration 2001-2004 Abortion & Traditional Values 1. Education & Employment Training 1. Signed the No Child Left Behind Act, delivering the most dramatic education reforms in a generation (challenging the soft bigotry of low expectations). The very liberal California Teachers union is currently running radio ads against the accountability provisions of this Act. 2. Announced "Jobs for the 21st Century," a comprehensive plan to better prepare workers for jobs in the new millennium by strengthening post-secondary education and job training, and by improving high school education. 3. Is working to provide vouchers to low-income students in persistently failing schools to help with costs of attending private schools. (Blocked in the Senate.) 4. Requires annual reading and math tests in grades three through eight. 5. Requires states to participate in the National Assessment of Education Progress, or an equivalent program, to establish a national benchmark for academic performance. 6. Requires school-by-school accountability report cards. 7. Established a $2.4 billion fund to help states implement teacher accountability systems. 8. Increased funding for the Troops-to-Teachers program, which recruits former military personnel to become teachers. Environment & Energy 1. Killed the Kyoto Global Warming Treaty. 2. Submitted a comprehensive Energy Plan (awaits Congressional action). The plan works to develop cleaner technology, produce more natural gas here at home, make America less dependent on foreign sources of energy, improve national grid, etc. 3. Established a $10 million grant program to promote private conservation initiatives. 4. Significantly eased field-testing controls of genetically engineered crops. 5. Changed parts of the Forestry Management Act to allow necessary cleanup of the national forests in order to reduce fire danger. 6. Part of national forests cleanup: Restricted judicial challenges (based on the Endangered Species Act and other challenges), and removed the need for an Environmental Impact Statement before removing fuels/logging to reduce fire danger. 7. 8. Has been one of the strongest, if not THE strongest friend Israel has ever hand in the U.S. presidency. 9. Part of the coalition for an Israeli/Palestinian "Roadmap to Peace," along with Great Britain, Russia and the EU. 10. Pushed through THREE raises for our military. Increased military pay by more than $1 billion a year. 11. Signed the LARGEST nuclear arms reduction in world history with Russia. 12. Started withdrawing our troops from Bosnia, and has announced withdrawal of our troops from Germany and the Korean DMZ. 13. Prohibited putting U.S. troops under U.N. command. 14. Paid back UN dues only in return for reforms and reduction of U.S. share of the costs. 15. Earmarked at least 20 percent of the Defense procurement budget for next-generation weaponry. 16. Increased defense research and development spending by at least $20 billion from fiscal 2002 to 2006. 17. Ordered a comprehensive review of military weapons and strategy. 18. Ordered a review of overseas deployments. 19. Ordered renovation of military housing.
Is this why the libs hate BUSH? President Bush's Accomplishments Spotted at Rightnation.us and GOPUSA.com reprinted here for your pleasure. But America will always stand firm for the non-negotiable demands of human dignity." Banned Partial Birth Abortion — by far the most significant roll-back of abortion on demand since Roe v. Wade. 2. Reversed Clinton's move to strike Reagan's anti-abortion Mexico Policy. 3. By Executive Order (EO), reversed Clinton's policy of not requiring parental consent for abortions under the Medical Privacy Act. 4. By EO, prohibited federal funds for international family planning groups that provide abortions and related services. 5. Upheld the ban on abortions at military hospitals. 6. Made $33 million available for abstinence education programs in 2004. 7. Supports the Defense of Marriage Act — and a Constitutional amendment saying marriage is between one man and one woman. 8. Requires states to conduct criminal background checks on prospective foster and adoptive parents. 9. Requires districts to let students transfer out of dangerous schools. 10. Requires schools to have a zero-tolerance policy for classroom disruption (reintroducing discipline into classrooms). 11. Signed the Teacher Protection Act, which protects teachers from lawsuits related to student discipline. 12. Expanded the role of faith-based and community organizations in after-school programs. Budget, Taxes & Economy 1. Signed two income tax cuts, one of which was the largest dollar-value tax cut in world history. 2. Supports permanent elimination of the death tax. 3. Turned around an inherited economy that was in recession, and deeply shocked as a result of the 9/11 attacks. 4. Is seeking legislation to amend the Constitution to give the president line-item veto authority. 5. In process of permanently eliminating IRS marriage penalty. 6. Increased small business incentives to expand and to hire new people. 7. Initiated discussion on privatizing Social Security and individual investment accounts. 8. Killed Clinton's "ergonomic" rules that OSHA was about to implement; rules would have shut down every home business in America. 9. Passed tough new laws to hold corporate criminals to account as a result of corporate scandals. 10. Reduced taxes on dividends and capital gains. 11. Signed trade promotion authority. 12. Reduced and is working to ultimately eliminate the estate tax for family farms and ranches. 13. Fight Europe's ban on importing biotech crops from the United States. 14. Created a fund to encourage technologies that help the disabled. 17. Increased the annual contribution limit on Education IRA's from $500 to $2,000 per child. 18. Make permanent the $5,000 adoption tax credit and provide $1 billion over five years to increase the credit to $10,000. 19. Grant a complete tax exemption for prepaid or college tuition savings plans. 20. Reduced H1B visas from a high of 195,000 per year to 66,000 per year. Character & Conduct as President 1. Changed the tone in the White House, restoring HONOR and DIGNITY to the presidency. 2. Has reintroduced the mention of God and faith into public discourse. 3. 7. 3. Told the United Nations we weren't interested in their plans for gun control (i.e., the International Ban on Small Arms Trafficking Treaty). 4. 3. Led the most extensive reorganization the Federal bureaucracy in over 50 years: After 9/11, condensed 20+ overlapping agencies and their intelligence sectors into one agency, the Department of Homeland Security. 4. Ordered each agency to draft a five-year plan to restructure itself, with fewer managers. 5. Converted federal service contracts to performance-based contracts wherever possible so that the contractor has measurable performance goals. Health< 1. Politics 1. This is not a movie about Bush vs. Kerry or Republicans vs. Democrats. Its about our current voting system and exposing a multitude of problems with that system as demonstrated in the 2004 election. We are told "EVERY VOTE COUNTS" and this documentary exposes the corruption, mistruths, and shameful negligence and mishandling of these "VOTES" in a way that cannot be denied nor ignored - unless you don't watch it for yourself. 73 out of 78 people found this review helpful. The answer is yes, yes, yes!!! Kudos to Bev Harris who has dedicated years to exposing the corruption surrounding electronic voting. Get this. After Hacking Democracy's premiere on HBO, Harris received death threats. That's how risky and powerful her work is. 67 out of 77 people found this review helpful. When a normal everyday citizen gets up and challenges the system, you see how the system fights back. This woman doesn't give up like most of us would and shows us and one election official in Florida that the way our voting system was run and still is, has errors. 29 out of 36 people found this review helpful. This wonderful documentary proves my point that we have the best democracy that money can buy, along with our judicial system. This film is more frightening than any horror film I've seen, because THIS IS REAL! And this is movie biased? Not at all. It's an absolute eye opener that shows that your vote really doesn't count; and make sure you watch the deleted scenes(another 33 minutes of fantastic footage). 1 out of 1 people found this review helpful. Although the filmmakers obviously have every reason to sensationalize potential problems with electronic voting systems ("good news is no news," right?), the implications here are frightening. Not only did Bev Harris (founder of a non-partisan watchdog group) find voting machine code unprotected on the internet, she was able to successfully hack it and prove that results could be manipulated (you can watch this being done in a matter of seconds in this film). The lack of oversight of the companies who control the majority of electronic voting is astounding, almost as bad as the sloppy manner in which our government oversees the elections themselves. 10 out of 10 people found this review helpful. We have hoped through the last few centuries that a government of the people, by the people and for the people would not parish from the face of the earth, and that America would be its shining example. After viewing this flick, you will realize just how tarnished our example has become. We have realized in the past decades, that money rules, and it just feels like our votes don't count, only the money that backs our politicians. Only the corporations and special interests have access to the politicians these days, not the people that vote. This picture goes a long way to explaining how that happens. After realizing the truths in this documentary, I feel even more helpless and useless to change a corrupt government by my vote. Did my vote get counted? How would I even know? The facts put forth in this program are just about incredible, but you come away realizing their powerful credibility. I wondered why their hasn't been criminal prosecution of the election fraud that is running rampant in our country today? Where are prosecuters? Why aren't elections officials who ignore our right to have our votes counted, recounter and certified being placed on trial for crimes against the electorate? You owe it to yourself and your country to see this documentary long before the next election. Don't miss this one! 8 out of 9 people found this review helpful. I found this review Click to rate this review as helpful Ben5765 35% Similar To You Ben5765's other reviews > 4.0 Stars This film is all about voting machines and how votes are tabulated. It makes mincemeat of the Diebold Corporation, manufacturer of a large percentage of the electronic voting machines used in the United States. It reveals Diebold officials making lie after lie about the security of their machines. The makers of the film meticulously document how, using Diebold's machines and data cards, someone with just a basic understanding of the technology involved (including, certainly, any Diebold employee) could rig the vote count, on one machine or on thousands of them, with absolutely no record that the rigging was ever done. The film also reveals how Diebold's chief executive officer was (and maybe still is) a large contributor to the Republican Party. He once wrote a letter stating that he would "deliver" Ohio's electoral votes in the 2004 presidential election for George W. Bush. The film later shows how his company managed to persuade Cuyahoga County, Ohio (where Cleveland is) to buy its machines. Maybe there is nothing fishy going on there, but appearances matter! Lest the film be seen as partisan, it features, among others, a Republican office-seeker from Louisiana who, after losing her race, went to view a demonstration of the machines that the voters used. As part of the demonstration she pressed the button next to her name, and the machine registered a vote for her opponent. Hmmm. She was understandably troubled. Moreover, the film points out that in many parts of the country it is in fact the local Republican Party that is wary of electronic voting machines, not the Democrats. Hacking Democracy also reveals problems with punch card voting systems--problems that dwarf the famous "hanging chad" problem of the 2000 presidential vote count in Florida. The film's message is distressing, but it is one all American citizens should hear and see. 5 out of 5 people found this review helpful. It is because their kind of ignorance that this movie is a 5 star and a must for every single human being to watch and learn. There is no excuse for any voting system to be too technical, too complex, too secret that we cannot prove what the votes were years from when the votes were taken. Not even 50 years, not even 100 years, not even 1000 years, not ever. For anyone to suggest that the electronic voting system is not possible to understand and to do a documentary for by a handful of heroic citizens, it is an insult to this country and democracy. Let these be the commandments of election: 1) No voting methods should be more complicated than what pen/pencil can do on a ballot. 2) Vote handling in any election process should be transparent to the public no matter when, why, how, what, who. 3) Only 100% accuracy should be accepted. Anything less then 100% should be recounted no matter how many times, how long it takes, and how much it cost to be 100% accurate. 4) Without 100% accuracy, election cannot be concluded. Another election should be conducted immediately without further delay. 3 out of 3 people found this review helpful. can we trust Palin when her husband and her see America as imperfect enough to pal around with terrorists? she gave a speech in the Alaskan independence party's convention last march. Todd Palin ,Gov. Palin's husband remained a registered member of the Alaskan independence party until 2002 even though, the party was founded by a man named Joe Vogler who wanted Alaska to secede from the United States. this is the same man who once said "the fires of hell are frozen glaciers compared to my hatred for the American government, and i won't be buried under their damn flag" and who also said "I'm an Alaskan, not an American. I've got no use for America or her damned institutions". so where does this man vogler rank on Palin's terrorist list or those who target their own country ? talk about treason.
As if bush wasn't a big enough step backwards for America, does Palin want to revert America to 49 states? ? Palin was a member of the Alaskan Independence Party which advocates that Alaska break away from America, like the confederate states during the Civil War, to form their own sovereign nation using violence if necessary. Their founder Joe Vogler has said "The fires of hell are frozen glaciers compared to my hatred for the American government...and I won't be buried under their damn flag!" He has also said "I'm an Alaskan, not an American. I've got no use for America or her damned institutions." Why should giant states exist? Break them up? Why should giant states with massive amounts of land and/or population exist? Wouldn't it be better to break up these monsters up into smaller states? Don't smaller states actually offer Americans more choices in terms of how to live/ freedom etc? What are your thoughts on this? Should smaller states combine to form bigger states? If you are wondering which states I'm talking about, I'm talking about California, Texas, Florida, Alaska and New York to start. We could have 100 stars on the flag instead of 50. It's okay to go the other way with this. Just 10 states could be fine too. I'm not taking a side on this. I'm just throwing up the idea. It just seems to me that if there were more states you would see more power to the people and more freedoms than you do at the moment. It's okay to go the other way with this.
