American State Flags

What are the current standards for American and State flags?

I drove past San Jose's HP Pavillion this morning and realized that the US and CA flags flying out there were horribly faded. When I was a kid we put up and took down the flag every day outside the schools. Is that no longer done? What are the new accepted etiquette standards for US and State flags?

  1. Sign of the times. America is falling
  2. The standards changed some time ago. You are allowed to leave the US flag up over night as long as there is a spot light on it. As far as the fading part goes. Well, that's just disrespectful and they need to get new flags.
  3. the flag code is not a law and many americans dont know the guide rules of the flag code and cant be bothered to change their flags because they dont think its that important. the flag code is terrably out of date anyway. but it is common respect to your country to fly a clean and bright flag without holes or frays in it. the flag code needs to include proper guidelines on retiring the flag- rather than to vaguely say 'burn it'. like a official ceremony or respectful way to do it because lot of people ive spoken to have not known what to do right with an old flag. also needs to update guidelines on wearing the flag. i would tell the people whos flag it is and advise them to replace it.
