Minnesota State Flags
![]() The official Minnesota state flags are currently used for both civil and state occasions. They are based on the 1893 design by Amelia Hyde Center and consist of a simple medium blue solid background with the state seal in the center. The seal bears the motto "L'étoile du nord," which is French for "The North Star." In this seal, 19 gold stars form the points of a five-point star, representing Minnesota as the 19th state added after the original 13 states. The 87 counties of the state are represented by an equal number of gold circles that frame the state seal's main body. |
